What are Crowns?

A crown is a small, permanent cap which is placed over your tooth to restore the tooth's structure

Crowns help to preserve the existing, natural tooth as well as restoring the tooths functionality and appearance

Why would I get a Crown?

A crown may be needed if your tooth is significantly damaged or has a weak structure following certain treatments such a root canal treatment

What to expect

It tends to require two visits for a crown to be fitted

First visit

  • Your dentist will remove any weakened or damaged parts of the tooth
  • Your dentist will take an impression of your tooth
  • Your dentist will fit a temporary, tooth coloured crown

Second visit

  • Your dentist will remove the temporary crown
  • Your dentist will fit and cement the new permanent crown
  • Your dentist will ensure the crown fits properly by examining your bite after the addition of the crown
